United Way seeks volunteers for fall Day of Action

As autumn leaves begin to turn and a crisp chill fills the air, United Way of Central Illinois is gearing up for its annual fall Day of Action, a communitywide volunteer event aimed at making a significant impact across the region. Set to take place on Friday, Oct. 4, this year’s initiative promises to “Ignite the Future,” with organizers emphasizing the critical need for volunteers to bring their ambitious plans to fruition.

The Day of Action serves as a cornerstone of United Way's mission to mobilize the caring power of communities, bringing together individuals, businesses, and organizations to address pressing local needs. Projects highlight United Way’s focus areas which include education, financial stability, basic needs, and health – the building blocks for a quality life and a strong community.

“Our fall Day of Action is more than just a single day of service,” said Marne Fauser, president and CEO of UWCIL. “It’s a catalyst for change that ripples throughout our community long after the event concludes. The projects we undertake and the connections we forge during this day lay the groundwork for ongoing improvements in the lives of our neighbors."

This year, UWCIL plans to continue to grow the program. United Way is organizing volunteer opportunities like beautification and improvements in local parks and playgrounds, painting, organizing, and cleaning, just to name a few.

“The scope of this year's Day of Action reflects the growing needs in our community,” Fauser said. “It’s more important than ever that we come together to support one another.”

The success of the Day of Action hinges on volunteer participation, and UWCIL is putting out an urgent call for community members to reach out and register. Volunteers of all ages, skill levels and backgrounds are needed to ensure that every project can be completed to its full potential.

Whether you can paint a mural, tutor a child, or simply lend a helping hand, there’s a place for you in this year's Day of Action. It’s an opportunity to not only make a difference but also to connect with your community in a meaningful way.

For those interested in participating, registration is quick and easy through United Way’s website at www.uwcil.org. Kelly emphasizes that early registration is encouraged, as the deadline for registration is Friday, September 6.

The impact of volunteering extends beyond the immediate benefits to the community. Studies have shown that regular volunteering can improve mental health, increase social connections, and even boost career prospects. For businesses, encouraging employee participation in the Day of Action can enhance team building and demonstrate corporate social responsibility.

“The fall Day of Action is a testament to what we can achieve when we unite for a common cause,” Fauser said. “It's about more than just one day of service – it’s about building a stronger, more resilient community that supports all its members. We invite everyone to be a part of this transformative experience."

With the clock ticking down to this year's event, the message from United Way of Central Illinois is clear: your community needs you. By dedicating just a few hours of your time, you can help create lasting change and be part of something truly impactful.
