Maybe now we'll get some reform in the classified document system. Of the millions of documents now classified, insiders say some are as banal as how to make a ham sandwich. If the nation had fewer secrets, it wouldn't be so easy to carelessly take some home to Indiana or the Delaware garage. Of the important secrets, we could phase out putting them on paper. Reform would deal with: Who should classify? What should be classified? How long should it remain classified? And we could develop a protocol for how to deal with stray documents. If they're returned quickly, with an apology, and there was no sinister intent, there's no need to make a big law enforcement deal out of it. –Fletcher Farrar, editor
