Southwind Park to host two family-friendly events

For Springfield-area families, Southwind Park is the place to be this Saturday. Two events will offer a wide variety of fun-filled activities at the park. Both begin at 10 a.m., but let's start with Hopeapalooza, which is back "bigger and better" this year. The annual event, which offers an opportunity to learn more about the Hope organization's children and programs, will feature inflatables, a live DJ, bubbles, a petting zoo, food vendors, booths, sensory-friendly spaces and much more. Sharing the park will be the annual Great Lawn Kite Festival, where professional kite enthusiasts and dealers from around the nation will demonstrate kite flying and will have them tethered at various parts of the park. The kite vendors will be on site for participants. Attendees also can fly their own kites at the festival. Tram rides around the park will be available. The rainout date for the kite festival is the next day.
